Forum: feature_films Subject: Science Fiction DVD set ready for upload

Hello, archive.org!
Several years ago, I acquired a DVD set of classic science fiction films. These are in excellent condition, and only one has ever been played. The four discs in the set are not encrypted, and have all been ripped to my computer. I am ready to convert and upload the films to archive.org, if any of them are wanted. Here is the list:

The Giant Gila Monster (1959) - b/w
The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues (1955) - b/w
The Amazing Transparent Man (1960) - b/w
Aliens From Space (1954) - b/w
The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962) - b/w
Radar Men From The Moon (1952) - b/w
Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe (1990) - color
They Came From Beyond Space (1967) - color
First Spaceship on Venus (1960) - color
Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965) - color
Cosmos: War of the Planets (1977) - color
War of the Robots (1978) - color
Unknown World (1951) - b/w
The Phantom Planet (1961) - b/w

The DVD set these are on was released by Echo Bridge Home Entertainment in 2003, but I am not sure where they were bought seeing as somebody else bought them and then gave them to me still in the wrapper.
Sincerely,
Lawrence

THere is no MPEG2 of Unknown World in the archive. If you can make and upload that it would be a good contribution. They are usually about 2GB in size, which is the upper limit for the HTTP uploader. 2GB and larger files have to be uploaded by FTP.

OK, sure!
Just a quick check - is uploading a DVD-Sourced copy of a PD film legally in the clear? I just wanted to check before I upload and get myself sued...!

Totally legal - as long as it's just the movie.

"just the movie" meaning without the pre- and post-movie credits and logos? Or what?

FBI notices, DVD manufacturer images, trailers, ads, etc. shouldn't be included. By 'the movie' I mean what is shown in the theater - from the beginning of the opening credits until the end credits finish, inclusive.

A watermark (logo) of the DVD company (Mill Creek, etc.) should be covered up.

Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe, is not public domain, and War of the Robots had it’s copyright renewed under GATT, so don’t upload them, they’ll just get taken down.
I don’t want to bum you out, and it never hurts to have more than one copy, but The Giant Gila Monster, The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues, The Amazing Transparent Man, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Radar Men From The Moon, They Came From Beyond Space, First Spaceship on Venus, Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet, Cosmos: War of the Planets, Unknown World and The Phantom Planet are already here on the archive. It’s quite possible that the PD films on your set were downloaded from here! :)
Never heard of Aliens From Space, and I can’t find it on the IMDb. Do you mean Killers from Space, also made in 1954? If so, it’s here, too. If not, you may have a winner there.
Thanks for sharing, Lawrence.

I'm with skybandit on that one. If "Aliens from Space" is indeed not "Killers from Space", let's see if it's pd and maybe put that up. It would be cool to have a new sci-fi upload that hasn't been put in here yet.
